Why I can’t grow tomatoes. It’s 10:30 pm and it feels like 91°F. We just don’t cool down in the summer. Even at night.
Yucky, hot and sweaty weather. It is definitely not being enjoyed by me!

Is it humid also? It was warmer than that here yesterday, but did not seem so bad. I suppose it would have if it stayed that warm at night.
I have lived a lot of places and the last two years have blown my heat experiences out of the water. Even for down here it has been unusually uncomfortable. We keep hitting record highs and our humidity blowing in from the Gulf makes it impossible to cool down. I wouldn’t mind the heat if I could head out in the evening and get stuff done. But we just don’t cool down. In the dog days of summer we can stay over 100° after midnight. Anything over about 90° at night shuts down flowering in tomatoes and other relatives. I used to be able to go work in this heat, but I just can’t do it anymore. Something is different. Probably the amount of humidity and my age. We went to the gym and there were people running on the outdoor track when our heat index was 112. Brave and dedicated souls. I couldn’t do it. Lots of people get heat stroke down here and it literally is like a stroke. Causes permanent damage. I can tell when I need to go inside and cool off. If I don’t pay attention to that I make myself sick. So we get humidity from the Gulf but no rain all summer. That’s why our heat index is so much higher than the actual temperature.
I have never experienced such heat. I have been in climates that get warm, but not while the weather is warm, and certainly not while it is humid. I can remember Palm Springs getting close to 120 degrees, but it did not feel too hot, supposedly because of the lack of humidity. It can be dangerous of course, because people do not always know to accommodates such heat by limiting activity.
sending cooling breezes your way
Oh, thank you! I need that!
Plus no breeze.
