What Have I Been Up To?

Second cinder block bed. I’ve got drain tile coming but it’s late. Still need to line this one with pond liner.

Spring is when I get serious about my garden. Weather is nice. Trees are coming in the mail. I build beds and start corn and all sorts of good stuff. The last couple of days I’ve been building permanent wicking beds for some fruiting bushes that are coming.

I don’t know if I’m going to leave this bed this size. It turned out really large and I’m putting a bush not a tree in it. But, I don’t feel like moving the cinder blocks again. I’ll think on it. I may plant more than just the bush in here.

I’m using cinder blocks.

You know what?

Cinder blocks are freaking heavy. I rediscover that fact every year. But I love them. It’s like legos. Super simple and they don’t rot or rust. But… then: there’s the heavy part!

Mess load of cinder blocks. I don’t want to rebuild beds… Like: ever. So this is why I continue to use these. I have beds that are twelve years old and they are still perfect.

All my plants are happy. Pushing out buds and flowers. My corn is in. I’m about to plant my tomatoes and peppers. It’s a good time to be outside, doing the heavy lifting projects that I have. I still have to clean up the banana beds. This year I’m going to dig out some of the rootballs of bananas I don’t want.

I have another veggie bed to clean up, and some raised tree beds to build out front.

Yep. Digging hard pan in flip-flops. Same story different decade. You know you live in the south when you have: your “gardening” flip-flops and your “going out to dinner” flip-flops!

My trees are going to arrive soon and as usual I’m not completely ready. That’s alright. I always get to where I need to be by the time it starts getting really hot. Lots of fun, playing in the mud! I am ageless in my garden. Probably, why I love it so much!

Some tomatoes I started from seed. I love starting seeds in milk jugs!

See you outside, to sweat in the sun and get things done
