Today In The Garden

Blackberries. The mulberry ended its amazing run a couple of weeks ago.
A tiny, unripe marionberry. These have a very distinct flavor. You get a blackberry/raspberry flavor with more sweetness than a blackberry and more tart flavor than a raspberry. Since I can’t grow regular raspberries down here: I put in a couple of Mysore tropical raspberries today. Hopefully they do well for me. I also added a Goji berry to the bed. It gets about as big as a good sized tomato plant, so it won’t take up much room.
Today’s handful of blueberries. They are getting really sweet and flavorful in the heat.
Some tomatoes.
Some second year asparagus that I’m not supposed to be able to grow. Do not give me a challenge! If I want to grow something, I will find a way to do it!
And my 18th wedding anniversary! My husband and I talked on the phone, for the first time (while he was sheltering in place in Biloxi, Mississippi) the night before Katrina made landfall. That was a hell of a storm! Hurricane Katrina made for an amazing life for us. The thought of not being able to have another chance to talk, was why I decided to go one step further and get to know this guy (who I had just met online, and was casually emailing/texting.) I guess there’s always a silver lining in anything you look at.

Meet you out in the garden to appreciate the choices we’ve made and the lives we’ve lived!
