    1. I am going to try a different method on them this year. Heat tape, tarp and insulation and seeing if they will live. I am determined to get bananas. I tried cutting some of the lower limbs on a few large bananas to force fruiting but I haven’t been out to do it again. They were supposed to be viente cohol but I think they are fakes. They are too big. However they may just be my Gros Michel and I’ve lost track of the other ones. I do have some Kokopo that I believe are the right variety. I’m following the directions below, but I have been out of town or sick a lot this year. I’m behind on pup removal. I’ve got about another month or two before I’m going to have to give up and try next year. https://www.bananapups.com/short-cycle/

      1. They do not know what seasons are! They bloom whenever they want to. If they happen to bloom at the end of winter, short cycle cultivars get enough time for their fruit to ripen. However, they can just as easily bloom at the end of summer, leaving their fruit to rot through winter. I notice that some ‘trees’ that get frosted over winter can finish their cycle even without the foliage that they developed for the previous summer. If they had not already bloomed, they can put out only a few leaves and then bloom as if nothing ever happened, with time for the fruit to develop. Of course, they do not have much energy to put into fruit, but they can try. This only works if the pseudostem survives.
