Are you living your best probiotic life?
If you do a little prep work, probiotics can be an easy delicious addition to every meal.
My breakfast of crushed strawberries (I crush them in a bowl with sugar and the top of a glass. This actually crushes the strawberry in chunks and it juices it at the same time. The sugar mixes in and it is a delightful topping. I keep mine in a jar in the fridge.) on top of homemade 36 hour yogurt. With some unsulphured molasses (or honey, stevia, brown sugar… whatever lights your fire) and keto granola from the bulk aisle of our grocer. Delicious breakfast!

My favorite homemade kimchi: (I’m not affiliated but her recipe is awesome.) https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/yangbaechu-kimchi

My current batch of sauerkraut with pears, apples, oranges, ginger and mangoes: https://crazygreenthumbs.com/2026/07/07/what-can-i-put-in-sourkraut/

Here’s a recipe for fire cider, which is both fermented and delicious. People have been known to use it in cocktails. Although most people use it as a panacia for colds. https://crazygreenthumbs.com/2023/11/09/fire-cider-immunity-booster-4/

Fig wine, which anyone with a fig tree will tell you you need to figure out how to process and preserve a boatload of figs! https://crazygreenthumbs.com/2024/06/15/fig-wine/

Armenian cucumber wine: https://crazygreenthumbs.com/2024/02/01/armenian-cucumber-wine/

And finally the favorite of homesteaders everywhere the infamous “shrub” which is a vinegar/fruit based drink: https://crazygreenthumbs.com/2023/06/15/shrub-a-dub-dub-what-to-do-with-imperfect-fruit-3/

Eating probiotics does not have to be hard to incorporate or torture on the taste buds. These are great recipes. As with most things you can do with your diet: start slow. Replacing gut bacteria can backfire if you eat too much too fast. As with everything: moderation in the beginning is key.
See you out in the garden to enjoy our fermented food and drink!
